Itinerary
Day 01: Arrival Kathmandu
Arrive at Tribhuwan International Airport, Kathmandu. You are welcomed by hospitable meeting and then you will be transferred to your hotel. Our guide will explain briefly the program upon arrival at hotel.
Day 02: Sightseeing of Kathmandu City, Swayambhunath & Patan
To get a feel for the city of Kathmandu and a first impression for its amazing architectural monuments we will begin our day with spending some time on the Kathmandu Durbar Square, the traditional heart of the old town. It consists of the huge erstwhile Royal Palace (Hanuman Dhoka) with different temples dating from the 15th to the 18th century. You will have the chance to see the Kasthamandapa, a temple made of the timber from a single tree that is the origin of Kathmandu city's name. Near the Durbar Square you have the chance to see the living Goddess at the window of her residence, the Kumari Temple.
We will visit Swayambhunath, also known as the Monkey Temple, which is one of the world’s oldest Buddhist stupas (more than 2500 years old). It is one of the most popular symbols and most visited sights of Nepal. Situated on the top of a hill west of Kathmandu it offers fine views over Kathmandu and the valley.
After having lunch we will go to Patan, also known as Lalitpur, the second-largest town in the valley. The city is full of Hindu temples and Buddhist monuments with bronze gateways, guardian deities and wonderful carvings. Noted for its craftsmanship on metal wood and stone, it is known as the city of fine art and beauty. Our tour consists of a visit to the Durbar Square representing the heart of the city. This square is full of ancient palaces, temples and shrines noted for their exquisite carving. The main attraction of the Patan Durbar Square are the courtyards of the ancient Royal Palace. The Krishna Mandir Temple is supposed to be the specimen of Shikhara style architecture in Nepal. It holds a commanding position in the palace complex of Patan city.
With a dinner at Wanjala Restaurant and presentation of folklore dances we end the day on a cosy note.
Day 03: Sightseeing of Pashupatinath, Boudhanath & Bhaktapur, drive to Nargarkot
Pashupatinath is the most famous Hindu temple and is situated on the banks of the river Bagmati. The deity is believed to be the Patron-deity of Nepal. While the temple complex including the inner sanctuary is open to the Hindu only; there are many other things to see which are interesting to non-Hindus as well. After Pashupatinath, drive further to Boudhanath. This is a fantastic Buddhist Stupa at a place known as Boudhd, about 7 km east of Kathmandu. The largest spherical Stupa was built during the 5th century A.D.
The ancient city of Bhaktapur lies 15 km east of Kathmandu. Bhaktapur, also known as Bhadgon, has preserved its ambience and charm of a medieval Newari city. The Durbar Square of Bhaktapur is an architectural masterpiece of harmony and beauty. Traditional craft skills are passed on from generation to generation. Bhaktapur is famous for its woodwork and pottery.
Drive to Nagarkot. It offers the best mountain views near Kathmandu.
